The so-called Vogel House, which has housed the City Museum since 1973, was built around 1705 according to the plans of Domenico Egidio Rossi. In the past it was used as a cavalier's house. Today it documents the baroque foundation of the city from the end of the 18th century to the present.

A permanent exhibition on the city's history conveys everything worth knowing about Rastatt's history of the last 300 years. In addition, the city museum shows annually changing special exhibitions on city and cultural history topics.

In the city museum you will find important mementos from the history of the city of Rastatt. Among them is a mammoth tusk that was found in a quarry pond. It is probably many thousand years old.
If you want to learn about life in Rastatt 300 years ago, you should pay a visit to the museum. City history was the favorite topic of Ludwig, the city mouse. With his friends he was present at all important events in Rastatt. The town museum explains how people in Rastatt used to live and what things they used.
You can see special exhibits from the time of the margraves and from the time when Rastatt was a garrison, i.e. a soldier town. Unfortunately, the history of the city mice is not recorded in the museum. However, you can read about it in the mice books.
