Alois Comlossi
Alois Comlossi was the name of the master butcher and revolutionary who lived in the house around the corner. One day in October 1849 he was finally sentenced to ten years in prison for "incitement to sedition, high treason and treason". He was one of the few Rastatt democrats to end up behind bars for his revolutionary activities.
Alois Comlossi's assets were confiscated and he served his prison sentence in Bruchsal. But after just two years, the tide turned and he was pardoned. As soon as he was freed, he and his family moved to America. Let's get away from Baden! New York was his destination, as it had been for many of his compatriots before him. Once there, a small family reunion took place. Alois reunited with his brother Franz, who had already built up a new life in New York after his successful escape.
