The Städtische Galerie Fruchthalle will present works by Ottersweier artist Manfred Emmenegger-Kanzler from February 23, 2023 with the exhibition "Treppensteigen" ("Climbing Stairs"). The ceramic artist stands with his works in the tradition of concrete art, which is based on mathematical-geometric principles. Until May 1, the Fruchthalle Gallery is also showing the show "Many find quite good what I do" with works by Myriam Holme. In addition, the art museum will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2023. To mark the milestone birthday, the anniversary exhibition "Intro! 30 Jahre Städtische Galerie Fruchthalle" was conceived for the anniversary, which can also be seen until May 1.
Exhibition "Myriam Holme: Many think what I do is quite good"
December 9, 2022-May 1, 2023
Sculptor and painter Myriam Holme's exhibition is based on a collage from Holme's "poetry of the week" series. The collages on paper combine script-based set pieces with various design techniques. A selection of 21 collages from this series is now being presented for the first time in a museum setting and juxtaposed with a room-sized installation of sculptural works. These works, presented lying on the floor, are largely based on curved aluminum plates that grope their way into the space and enter into a relationship with the postmodern architecture of the Fruchthalle. Thus, the exhibition also becomes a sensual experience.
About the artist: Myriam Holme studied at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe from 1996 to 2002. She herself taught at the art academies in Munich and Düsseldorf and received scholarships from the Kunstfonds Bonn, the state of Baden-Württemberg and the German Academy Rome. in 2017, she was awarded the Kubus Art Prize for extended painting at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. Holme's work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in museums in Germany and abroad.
Exhibition "Intro! 30 years Städtische Galerie Fruchthalle Collection Rastatt and guests"
From December 9, 2022 to May 1, 2023
With this exhibition, the gallery presents a collection presentation at the end of the year 2022 and at the same time ushers in the anniversary year. The presentation feeds on works from the collection "Art in Baden after 1945" and on contributions from the present. Spacious sculptures are juxtaposed with spatial concepts in painting and drawing. Here, artists of different generations meet and negotiate the theme of space in sculpture and painting. Works by Manfred Emmenegger-Kanzler, Gerlinde Fertig, Jochen Damian Fischer, Lea Gocht, Barbara Haim, Johanna Helbing-Felix, Bernadette Hörder, Günther Karcher, Jörn Kausch, and Susanne Neiss, among others, are on view.
Exhibition: "Climbing stairs" by Manfred Emmenegger-Kanzlers
From February 23 to May 1, 2023
The exhibition presents a variety of different works by Ottersweier artist Manfred Emmenegger-Kanzler. Thus, works made of ceramics will be shown as well as works temporarily made of bricks. In addition, one of his objects will be presented in the glass box in front of the Fruchthalle. In the exhibition "Treppensteigen" the terracottas of Manfred Emmenegger-Kanzler are the focus of the presentation. They refer to basic architectural forms such as houses, staircases, pillars or towers and gain something lively through the holey surface and the earthy color. His "staircases," as the artist himself calls the series of works, lead into "nothingness." For Emmenegger-Kanzler, the path remains the goal.
