225 Years of the Rastatt Congress: "The Eyes of All Europe are on Rastatt": More than 200 years ago, a congress was convened in Rastatt to negotiate peace between the German Empire and France. It was intended to put an end to the First Coalition War, which had been raging in Europe since 1792. The current special exhibition in the City Museum sheds light for the first time on this important event - also from the perspective of the city of Rastatt - as a result of which the map of Europe was to change permanently. The Rastatt Envoy Murder
"... a disgraceful act, of which no similar example exists in European history": After the outbreak of the Second Coalition War in March 1799, the French envoys Bonnier, Roberjot and Debry left Rastatt. As they passed the city limits, they were ambushed. And Bonnier and Roberjot were murdered. Debry escaped seriously injured. The assassination was received with great indignation in France, became the subject of partly abstruse speculation and was widely reported in writing and pictures. More information on the murder of the Rastatt envoy.
